On Monday evening, April 7, 2008, Terri Klements was named a Phenomenal Woman by The Junior Service League. Amy Lusby of The Junior Service League presented the Executive Director of The Tree House the organization's very first Phenomenal Woman of The Month Award. Terri was honored for her fervent and exemplary dedication to serving the youth in The Grand Valley. Nominated for this first-time award by her staff, an excerpt of the nomination that was read at the presentation follows:

"Terri Klements is a strong and inspirational woman who deserves to be recognized for the way in which she helps the community, the youth that her organization serves and her staff. Based on the needs she discovered when attempting to raise her own children, Terri Klements founded The Tree House in 1999. She has nurtured the organization as it grew from a little dream to a reality with many branches to help her community. Mrs. Klements has helped the youth in the community by giving them places to call their own.

Her dedicated work has created multiple after school sites for middle school students to stay safe during the high risk hours for negative behaviors. Her dream has also grown into a coffee shop for high school and college students, so that they may study and socialize in a safe environment that is drug, alcohol and tobacco free. Mrs. Klements truly wants to make a significant change in Mesa County by helping youth grow and mature into well-rounded adults with meaningful lives. She works hard for others and receives little recognition for all the changes she makes for this community. I believe she deserves notice for one month for the work she has been doing every month for years now."
