Tree House Youth Shelter Closes Doors

August 14, 2007

Due to the numbers and the nature of phone calls that have been received at The Tree House following the closing of The Tree House Youth Shelter (THYS), it seemed appropriate to write this letter.  THYS was only one of the varied programs operated by The Tree House.  Please be assured that The Tree House organization is alive and well and continues to serve youth in The Grand Valley with its proactive and empowering programs.  In the 18 months that our shelter for homeless and unaccompanied youth was open, only 13 of the 197 teens that we served left the Shelter to whereabouts unknown.  All others came out of our program to safe environments-some with family and some moving on to places or programs more appropriate for them in which to lead a healthy life.  We want to thank everyone who was instrumental with us in making such a positive change in the lives of these young people.  You are not forgotten in their minds or their hearts, and certainly not forgotten in ours.

In the past year, The Tree House organization has had over 7500 contacts with youth through our various programs and branches.  We thank the public for their continued support and pledge that we will continue to do our utmost to fulfill our mission in The Grand Valley-"to provide a safe haven for young people ages 11 to 22".
